Community Groups to Speak with one Voice
Written by: Chester Chronicle | Posted: 17/07/2009
COMMUNITY groups are forming one organisation to make sure its voice is heard.
Residents’ groups representing the city centre, the Garden Quarter, Kingsway and Newton, Northgate Village and Brook Street are behind the Chester Communities Together initiative.
Many enjoyed a relationship with the now defunct Chester City Council but are concerned their voice may not be heard within the larger Cheshire West and Chester Council.
Secretary Martyn Delaney said: “We realised that with the new larger authority there is a need for community groups to form larger groups to engage with them to have some strength behind our voice.”
“Many of the group’s members have been successful campaigning on local issues,” added Mr Delaney.

Youth Choir hit the high notes
Written by: Chester West and Chester | Posted: 17/07/2009
The 50 members of Cheshire Youth Choir hit the high notes in the Chester Big Sing last Saturday.
Choir members from across Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East Councils are aged between 13 and 21. It was the first time that they had taken part in the Chester Summer Music Festival.
Before performing they gathered at County Hall where they met Director of Children and Young People’s Services John Stephens and Ann Moore, Head of Achievement and Wellbeing.
"It's fantastic that so many young people are taking part in this wonderful celebration of music" said John Stephens. "We thoroughly enjoyed hearing the Cheshire Youth Choir run through some of their repertoire before setting off – they were in great voice!
"They performed in three locations – Watergate Street, outside the Town Hall, and Bridge Street" said John who went along with the choir to see them in action.
He continued: "There were eight choirs in total who took part in the Chester Big Sing and I am sure that shoppers and visitors loved hearing them.
"Our talented young people clearly enjoyed being part of this great music festival."
